OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the reliability of hybridization and direct fluorescent antibody tests for diagnosis of genital Chlamydia trachomatis infections.
METHODS: Cervical specimens from 100 infertile women were evaluated with hybridizasyon, direct fluorescent antibody and cell culture method to be used as gold standard and sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of the three methods were compared.
RESULTS: C. trachomatis was determined on 11 of the samples. Seven and 19 positive samples were found respectively through direct fluorescent antibody and hybridization tests. It was calculated %54,5 and %81,8 sensitivity, %98,9 and %88,8 specificity, %85,7 and %47,4 positive predictive value, %94,6 and %97,5 negative predictive value respectively in direct fluorescent antibody and hybridization tests.
CONCLUSION: It was concluded that a single method has not a precise sensitivity and specificity for C. trachomatis diagnosis and the results should be confirmed by other methods and the hybridization method is more rapid and effective than the other methods.

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmanın amacı genital Chlamydia trachomatis enfeksiyonlarının tanısında hibridizasyon ve direkt flöresan antikor testlerinin güvenilirliğini araştırmaktır.
YÖNTEMLER: Yüz infertil kadından alınan servikal sürüntü örneği hibridizasyon, direkt flöresan antikor testi ve standart tanı yöntemi olan hücre kültür yöntemi ile incelenerek testlerin duyarlılık, özgüllük, pozitif ve negatif prediktif değerleri karşılaştırılmıştır.
BULGULAR: Örneklerin 11’inde hücre kültürü ile C. trachomatis saptanmıştır. Direkt flöresan antikor testi ile yedi, hibridizasyon testi ile 19 örnek pozitif bulunmuştur. Direkt flöresan antikor ve hibridizasyon testleri için duyarlılık sırasıyla %54,5, %81,8; özgüllük %98,9, %88,8; pozitif prediktif değer %85,7, %47,4; negatif prediktif değer %94,6, %97,5 olarak hesaplanmıştır.
SONUÇ: Sonuç olarak C. trachomatis tanısında tek bir yöntemin yeterli duyarlılık ve özgüllüğe sahip olmadığı, alınan sonuçların ikinci bir yöntem ile doğrulanması gerektiği ve hibridizasyon yönteminin diğer yöntemlere oranla hızlı ve etkin olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
