Abstract
OBJECTIVE
Aims of this study are detecting sociodemographics of parents of SSPE patients, determining of parents' depression and level of desparation, and detecting the relation between depression and levels of desparation
METHODS
This study was conducted with the parents of SSPE patients who are registered to Diyarbakır branch of SSPE Foundation. The investigation was carried out between December 2014 and January 2015. Data was gathered by Sociodemographic data form, Beck Depression Inventory, the Beck Hopelessness Scale. The data was evaluated with percentage, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis, t test, mean, correlation analyses and alpha coefficient.
RESULTS
A significant difference wasn't detected between number of children, age, level of education, place, average income and depression and hopelessness levels of parents of children with SSPE.
CONCLUSION
It was detected that level of depression was moderate and level of hopelessness was mild. A significant relation is positively detected between depression and level of hopelessness (p<0.01). It was suggested that to educate the parents of SSPE patients in early period and giving personal consulting service and it was suggested that the universalization of the treatment institutes for SSPE will be important.
